Choosing a Bharatanatyam Practice Saree
Dancers wear a practice saree for class and rehearsals — draped in the Bharatanatyam style so the legs can move freely in aramandi. Here is what is available, what it costs on our website (October 2026) and how to pick one.
Cotton practice sarees
Most of our practice sarees are cotton and cost ₹645 to ₹975. They come in many borders and designs — plain border, mudras border, rudraksha border, annam border, zari border, mango border, white border, stripes, Madras checks, Kalamkari and the Dancing Doll print — each in a range of colours.
Length
Product pages state the length where it matters: for example 5 metres (rudraksha border), 5.5 metres (mudras border) and 6 metres (plain border). If you are tall or prefer more fabric for the pleats, choose a longer saree.
Readymade (pre-stitched) practice sarees
If draping takes too long before class, choose a readymade practice saree — it is made to wear quickly with a neat classical drape. Our readymade semi-silk practice saree costs ₹4,975 and suits Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi practice, rehearsals and lecture demonstrations.
How to choose
For daily classes, a cotton saree is the usual choice — easy to wash and comfortable through long practice. Pick a border your teacher or institution prefers (some ask for a uniform colour), and keep two so one is always washed. Choose readymade if you change quickly between classes or are still learning to drape.
